After a long off-season of performance training and preparation, the Silverbacks opened up 2017 with a disappointing loss to the Patterson Pirates 16-0. Silverbacks walked over 10 batters and were outplayed at every turn. Fred Faustini got the opening day start and took the loss as he struggled with his early season control. Brian Ferrara and Erik Swee had the only 2 hits of the game for the Gorillas. Game 2 they rebounded and jumped out to a lead on only 1 hit by Connor Westerman, but slowly gave in to the seasoned Pirates who came back from behind to eventually sweep the Silverbacks 9-4. A good pitching performance by Tanner Siciliano striking out 5 over 5 innings, allowing 4 earned runs taking the loss.

The team took their 0-2 record into a DH against Cortlandt Nationals and threw Garrett Huff on the hill. Huff threw a gem allowing only 2 hits over 6 easy innings of work but took a 1-0 loss. Vinny Costanzo, Brian Ferrara, Freddy Faustini, and Mike Mauro all had hits for BAT, but could not push a run across the board. The team dropped to 0-3 heading into the 2nd game with the Nationals. Faustini took the mound to start and the team was up 4-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning before the game was called due to visibility. Vinny, Erik, Connor, and Mike all had hits and the game is set to resume at a later date. The Silverbacks left the park 0-3 with a chance to earn a future win.

With the Silverbacks winless but improving, the team strolled into Ardsley to take on local training facility competitor House of Sports Aces. Garrett Huff took the mound and once again put on a tremendous performance allowing only 2 hits over a complete 7 inning effort with 8 strikeouts earning the team’s first ever win. Thomas Roselli, Tanner Siciliano and Dan Turner posted hits, and Faustini and Mauro each had 2 hits. Mike Mauro drove in 2 RBIs, and Thomas Roselli and Garrett Huff knocked in 1 each. BAT improved to 1-3 and this game marked the rise of the Silverbacks in the Greater Hudson Valley. This game was part of a triple header the team would play on April 30th. In the afternoon they faced off against the Mahopac Indians for two games. Game 1 the Silverbacks started flat and we’re instantly down 6-0 after 2 innings. The BAT pitching staff gave up 11 hits and 11 runs but did mount a comeback ultimately losing 11-6. Silverbacks put up a season high 8 hits in the game lead by a 3-hit 4-RBI performance from Tanner Siciliano. Mauro, Westerman, Swee, Costanzo and Harrison Konopka all had hits. Harrison also had 2 walks. Game 2 was a completely different outcome as BAT threw hard throwing Connor Westerman at the Indians and scalped them 8-1. Westerman gave up 1 hit and 1 run over 4 innings and Tanner Siciliano came in for the 3 inning save improving the Silverbacks to 2-4 on the year. BAT slugged out 7 hits led by Thomas Roselli with 2 hits, Mauro, Turner, Costanzo, Swee, and Jimmy Berthelon got into the action each with a hit. Jimmy also had a walk and scored 2 runs. Freddy Faustini added 2 walks on the day.

BAT headed into CT to face the Darien Blue Hawks, a very solid ball club and took out the broom for the sweep 5-2 and 6-5 to even their record at 4-4. Game 1 the Silverbacks threw Vinny Costanzo and Daniel Turner at the Hawks. While giving up 7 hits, Vinny held the team down to only 2 runs over 3 innings allowing the Silverbacks to to hit away posting 10 hits and jumping out on top in the 4th. Daniel Turner collected the win giving up only 2 hits in the final 4 innings of work. At the plate it was Tanner once again posting 3 hits and 2 RBI’s, Costanzo and Nate Townsend each had 2 hits, Westerman, Huff and Mauro each smashed a single as well. Townsend and Mauro added RBIs as well. Game 2 was a classic game with Garrett Huff looking to get the Silverbacks even on the year. Huff battled over 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits. Mike Mauro came in with the bases loaded to pick up a save striking out 2 batters. Vinny Costanzo led the offense with 3 hits and Mike Mauro had 2 including a bomb double and 2 RBIs, Konopka, Westerman, Huff, and Ferrara each added a walk. Costanzo, Konopka, and Faustini each had a key stolen base in this tight game.

With the Silverbacks at 4-4 and starting to play good baseball, they are in the final week of the regular season with a few more games remaining before playoffs. Offense leaders are Costanzo batting .381, Mauro.350, and Siciliano .318 on the year. Swee .273, Faustini and Roselli .231 are at their heels, with several others starting to get hot. Huff has 2 wins on the season, Westerman and Turner each have 1. Huff has 13 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. Siciliano has 7 strikeouts in 8 innings pitched.

The team is on the rise!
